  • Anyone who’s not sure whether people want to convert their camera phone into a barcode scanner should take a look at this latest report from Mplayit, a smartphone app store specialist.  They looked at the most downloaded apps from the top three app stores – Android Market, Apple App Store, and BlackBerry App World.

There were a couple overall findings and one of the big ones is that people love their barcode scanners.  On each OS, there was one popular app which scanned barcodes and ScanLife is the leader on BlackBerry right now.

The analysis also showed that Barcode readers have recently shot to the top of the most sought after apps on all the three leading smartphone platforms. Currently, all of these platforms offer barcode solutions, though from different vendors.”If you’re switching to a new phone, you don’t want to give up functionality,” Powers continued. “It’s not really necessary to match Apple app-for-app to offer a compelling mobile experience. Android and other platforms only need to offer the best and the brightest, as well as the same utility and features.”

This is very encouraging, and we look forward to making ScanLife the cross-platform barcode scanner of choice.  We just started to update our apps for Android and iPhone, so if you haven’t tried them recently, please go ahead and get the latest versions.  Many more features will be coming soon, so stay tuned…
